It’s a joyous celebration of old time string band music, where fiddles and voices harmonise with the rhythms of the banjo, guitar and double bass. The band is Pablo Shopen on banjo and fiddle; Jacqueline Bradley on fiddle and banjo; Matt Nightingale on double bass any myself on guitar, fiddle and banjo. The entire band sings. There are and have been so many great fiddlers, but to me there was a greatest of them all! Kenny Baker’s fiddle had a singing tone that had no equal.
A true stylist (he remade Monroe’s repertoire into his own), a prolific composer (Bluegrass in the Backwoods, Windy City, First Day in Town and so many other classics) and a keeper of the old time flame (he knew hundreds of tunes and popularised them ); Baker was the definitive bluegrass fiddler.
